Introduction
Today we will be discussing graveyard companions as they are one of the highlights of Halloween. They are a fascinating group of entities as they fall into several different categories. Many of them are inner spiritual world (ISW) companions, many of which are psychopomps aka heralds of the dead. Akelta’s specialty has been in conjuring demons from the beginning of her journey as she was naturally attuned to them and had a knack for it. After working and conjuring demons Akelta got into conjuring angels and from there she moved on to more local ISW entities especially those that revolved around Halloween and the darker season. She started seeking out different groups within that category so that she could connect and conjure them.
When Akelta sought out discovering and learning about different potential graveyard companions that could be offered as conjures she wanted to pick unique ones that she was aligned with in general. One of the biggest concerns for Akelta when conjuring is the aspect of unique ties that we all carry within us as we are all connected to different realms. Thus, by having that strong resonance it allows them to go to those places, which grants them the ability to have the most powerful matches for others. When Akelta was exploring graveyard companions that was a big priority for her to connect to the realms that she had the strongest connection to and forming relationships with the beings that are there.
Attunements
Akelta has mentioned in her work in the past that it is important to establish different attunements based on the realm or species you are working with. Attunements are vibrational adjustments done to your third eye in order for you to communicate with different entities. When you are communicating with different entities it’s like listening to different radio stations and so you have to tune into the station your entity communicates with to properly do so. The various attunements that Akelta provides gives different frequencies that the third eye can tap into so that it can help the third eye go to those places. Through this it can help you actually hear and communicate with them.
Jack o Lantern
The first graveyard companion to be discussed is the jack o lantern. In fact you do not get more aligned with the spirit of Halloween than the soul of a Jack o Lantern. Jack o lanterns are one of Akelta’s favorites as she finds their energies joyful and happy. They are a spirit and an elemental. Akelta calls them an earthen and a necromancy class as the attunements that help with connecting to them is necromancy and an alignment with the earthen realms. They can align nicely to our ISW senses and psychic abilities as they are from the earthen realm and they can also be found in the hallow death realms. As the spectral and necrosis demons have both an ISW and outer spiritual world (OSW) alignment some of the more ancient souls of the jack o lanterns can have that as well because you can find some in the hallow realms. Anyone who is proficient in necromancy will have the ability to communicate with the souls of jack o lanterns or anyone who is connected to the earthen elemental realms like does who work with the elemental earth or those spirits in general you will have the ability to communicate and connect with them.
In this talk we will focus on the ISW jack o lanterns as they have a story tied with them. There are different stories but the main one is about a boy named Jack. Jack was called Stinging Jack and he one day invited the devil to have a drink with him, however he didn’t want to pay for it, so he convinced the devil to turn himself into a coin. Once the devil turned into a coin Jack decided to keep the money in his pocket next to a silver cross which prevented the devil from changing back into his original form. Jack eventually freed the devil with the condition that the devil would not bother him for one year and if during that time Jack were to die, he would not claim his soul. When the time came and the year ended Jack tricked the devil again to climb a tree to get some fruit, so it was a series of stories of Jack tricking the devil. Thus, when Jack did die God wouldn’t allow him into heaven because he wasn’t a good person in life but then the devil also refused to accept him into hell. Due to this Jack was forced to wander off into the darkness as he wasn’t granted salvation, so he became a lost and wandering soul. The devil in some legends ended up giving him some refuge by giving him one of the lights of hell to help him find his way in the dark.
Traditionally, we carve jack o lanterns to protect our houses, to keep evil spirits away from us and to keep them from attacking and hurting us. The soul of the jack o lanterns that S&S offers represent that. They are a spiritual entity that embodies the essence of the jack o lantern, so they offer protection, defense for the home as they can ward and shield, and they can be very grounding too. Their energies can also bring with them the resonance of festivities, celebration, and rich treasures of the earth. It is said that when one of them is carved that the face represents the spirit that is contained within and the fusion is then complete. The pumpkin which is a spirit of its own becomes a spirit and then it gains unique powers and abilities. Every jack o lantern is thus unique and as they are carved their energies get imbued within the soul of the jack o lantern. It’s an interesting birthing of energies as you have your energy of crafting the soul of the jack o lantern and the spirit of the pumpkin itself, and from there a transformation on the celebration of the death nights where they become a spiritual entity or spirit.
The souls of jack o lanterns are unique; as mentioned they are guardians of the homestead, protectors of the hearth and home, they can also banish and remove negative energies and entities. They are also very good at telling stories especially those within the hallow realm as they are more OSW earthen based spirits that have a connection to the death realms. These types of jack o lanterns are grown within the death realms and then they develop a life force of their own. They are light so they can guide those in the underworld to their resting place, they can protect the dead, facilitate the opening of gates to allow the dead passage, and can help those who are lost. Jack o lanterns are also drawn to the protection of children or drawn to help the spirits of children who can’t find their way. They all have their own stories to share, they can raise the energies and vibrations, as well as bring a sense of community and connection. There is a whole resonance and tie with them relating to community and connection where there are strings of jack o lanterns lining the street which creates this environment, as they can soothe energies, as well as bring peace and clarity. Additionally, the fire that they contain within them is hellfire so they can always light your way in the dark. Even if you are going on astral journeys or different spiritual journeys into dark realms their hellfire can cut through any darkness and help you always find your way home.
Black Wraiths
One of the most popular graveyard companions purchased at S&S is the black wraith. They are a spirit, so they are in fact dead. Black wraiths are from the ISW; they tend to linger in death, graveyard realms, and black death realms- within very dark and sinister realms where there is a lot of malicious forces and horrific things that happen. The black wraiths come about when someone dies a horrific death and they are then driven by vengeance instead of desiring to find peace and cross over. We’ve all heard stories that send chills down our spines; stories which involve incredibly tragic deaths. From these circumstances the souls of those people sometimes don’t find peace and at times they don’t even wish for it, so they become driven by vengeance and a desire to exact revenge on those who wronged them. Therefore, they don’t cross over but instead choose to stay here and become consumed with their own desire for vengeance. As they remain the energies will begin to twist and warp them, so they become a dead spirit infused with the energies of vengeance and darkness as they become hellbent on fulfilling their purpose. Akelta categorizes them in the graveyard and necromancy class.
Death is very complex and layered. Not everyone always finds peace, nor does everyone always want it. There’s a notion in spirituality that everyone wants the same thing however that is not true. So many different paths exist since not everyone wants to ascend, some prefer to descend, or some want to go left or right, therefore in death we also find that some don’t want to move on but rather stay and fulfill another purpose. Black wraiths are an example of this since they passed violently, experienced great trauma and pain giving them a new purpose that they desire to fulfill rather than move on. Often times the ones Akelta conjures can even understand the pain and trauma that their companions have gone through and can embrace them on a deep level.
The black wraiths are often quite cold in personality although some do retain personality traits and characteristics of themselves from who they were during their life. Their energy is twisted so the screening process is interesting for them. Akelta has to be able to distinguish between a wraith that will go on a murder rampage versus a wraith that has conscious thought as some of them have retained it and are very intelligent. Some however are mindless and when you send them on a task, they will simply go ahead and do it. Others will have incredible rationality and can decipher what’s going on and see things often in a unique way.
There is no requirement for a human companion to have a specific mindset or personality type as black wraiths will vary and will be matched with those who resonate most strongly with them. Some of them like people who will go along with things like revenge and others will like lighter human companions or children as it reminds them of themselves before they were twisted. The ones who are darker and don’t have as deep of a personality don’t care as they only will want someone that can help them further fulfill their purpose. Others have remnants of their personality and some will like darker humans that can speak with them and guide them to fulfill what they desire.
Then there are other types of black wraiths who enjoy being with people who are more of a reminder of who they were before they were hurt, so they like watching the innocence, happiness and joy of children as it pulls on a part of them that they once enjoyed and remembered. Sometimes they’ll just watch as they don’t usually participate. This type of wraiths are interesting and can be more dangerous to people that try to harm them because if someone tries to hurt a child they will go after them as they don’t know want what happened to them repeated on the child. They have a super protective quality within them and Akelta will look for this quality for people who want a wraith and have children. Especially if the person wants to make sure their children stay safe. Some wraiths envision their purpose as if they stop someone doing something horrible to another person it’s almost like reversing what happened to themselves. They stop it in another person because if they don’t it reminds them of themselves. They try to fulfill their purpose and rather than really saving themselves it’s more like they save others from their fate which makes them feel better. The purpose of them getting into this state as a wraith however is to get revenge.
Black wraiths have an amazing ability to curse and work powerful execration spells. They are a symbol of death, destruction, torment, and despair. When it comes to exacting revenge on their targets, they show no remorse and won’t hesitate to strike those who have done them or their companions wrong. When Akelta screens them she makes sure they understand the concept of friendship and loyalty, so they can form connections with their companions in a way. They still have a twistedness to them, but they won’t hurt their companion and have a sense of loyalty towards their companion. They make sure to test for loyalty so there isn’t a chance that they will turn against their human companion. Thus, if anyone does their companion wrong especially if it’s the same thing that was done to them, they will go after them.
They’re very powerful and they can go after your enemies, those that have wronged you, anyone that is targeting you, give warning if someone is trying to hurt you, or they can help you to see the darkness in others so you can see when someone doesn’t have your best interests at heart. A lot of times when we interact with people we often do not see their true intentions and at times don’t know when we are about to be betrayed so they can help us with that, and if we are betrayed they have no problem going after them.
People who died and have committed atrocities similar to them, wraiths will actually hunt those people down and try to keep them confined and prevent them from crossing over and basically torture them because they know they were ones who committed horrific acts that contributed to their downfall. They are great for giving warnings and letting you know if something is wrong, they can show you what’s going on around you and give you a clear picture.
They are created from the energies of pain and darkness, they know how to bring this pain to those that have wronged them. They have control over the darkness around them and they can warp and twist the minds of people. They are dark and nefarious themselves, so they can often pick up when someone doesn’t have the best interests for their companion, or if someone is out to get them, or hurt you. They can see people in layers so they can calculate who will betray you, who’s going to do you wrong, and who from the very beginning is out to get you. As most of us can think of a time in our life where we met someone who seemed nice and happy but actually already had our downfall planned and take pleasure in the idea of it.
They are very good at camouflage and can twist/bend as they move through the shadows which is what makes them so skilled at finding their target and striking them down. They can be undetected because of the way they can shift through the death currents and the death realms through the shadows. They can bypass a lot of shields and protections to hit their targets and hit them hard. They can also mask and shape the world around them; they can surround their companion in a protective shield to keep them safe and secure from any malicious forces. If a malicious entity enters your space, they’ll just remove it as they are very talented at that. They won’t hesitate when striking it down, move it, banish it, burn it, wrap it in darkness and incinerate it. Many times when they are around you won’t even notice when they removed something dangerous because they will simply take care of it.
Black wraiths love darkness, the night, they surprisingly like places where tragic things have happened because it fuels them. Their energies are empowered by what warped and twisted them in the first place, so they enjoy going to places where something horrific has happened since it’s almost like they absorb those energies to be empowered by it. Through this it helps them gain power and ability over the world.
There are different wraiths from other realms but Akelta focuses and conjures those that have been warped within our physical world. There are also more than just black wraiths as there are blue and gold wraiths that Akelta has previously found, which have different energies and align to different realms where they are from. As you get to different realms they do change. The gold wraith is interesting because there is an element of a powerful healer within them. They are someone who has died and was warped by the energies but for them it’s as if they are warped by righteous light energies, so they can call forth and extract vengeance from the more holy and light energies.
Can Wraiths Pull Entities off Human Companions?
It depends on how deep the entity is within the human. When negative entities get into you there are different degrees of how deep they go in. If one is on the surface of your aura they can rip them off, however you have to be careful as once these entities begin to embed themselves into you or depending on how long they have already been inside you will be an important factor.
One example of this is a case that Akelta worked on where a boy named Jack had an entity that was woven so deeply into him that it was embedded into his neurological system, and made it so that Jack couldn’t walk. The doctors couldn’t find anything physically wrong with him and there should have been no reason why he lost control of his legs and eyes. However, the true cause was due to this entity, which embedded itself deeply inside him. If Akelta in this situation were to simply grab the entity and pull it out she might have actually damaged Jack’s nervous system, and thus prevented him from getting his health back. So she had to instead go in and carefully remove the entity from him. Thus, if an entity is deeply woven inside of you your companion won’t just rip them off of you as that could damage you.
If you’ve ever had a chakra rip, chakra bleed, if your chakras got damaged to a certain point or if your aura became damaged it eventually shows up within the physical body as a manifestation of a disease or misalignment in the body. Thus, if something big like this happens there will be big manifestations within the physical body. When Akelta is screening she makes sure there isn’t a healing Rambo who will go in there and rip you to shreds to remove something thinking they are doing you a favor when they’re possibly damaging you more. Long story short they can pull entities off of you if they are on the surface, but if they get too deep they won’t simply rip them off as that will hurt you.
Night Hags
The night hag is an ISW spirit who was often someone who was a witch or woman of power. Night hags can also be women or men that were burned at the stake. They are called night hags, but it doesn’t have to be a woman although they are more common. There are male and genderless night hags as they are spirit and sometimes spirits don’t play by any rules at all so they can be whatever they want. There is a fluidness to them, so night hags can be anything. Thus, the night hag denotes the death of a witch, or powerful person whose power could not be contained, and they ended up shifting, transforming, warping and becoming empowered by the darkness that was around them as well as empowered by their magical skill and talent.
Their skill and talent could not be contained in death, so they became the embodiment of power. Thus, they are incredibly skilled in magick. It is often said that when a witch dies his or her energies leave a mark on the earth. From these energies the night hag rises. Some are beautiful and powerful spirits others wander the earth as teachers and knowledge sharers. They’re usually very blunt and direct in their words but if they are just giving you advice, they aren’t trying to be cruel. They can be found all over the place; a lot of them like dark corners like caves, wandering in the shadows, graveyards, dark forests, etc. This is why some night hags show up sometimes and crush people in their sleep as they wander around. A lot of people on the East Coast and in Canada talk about night hags so Akelta wonder what people did to deserve it.
Currently in society youthful beauty is what is dominant but there is beauty in old age, in the stage of life where you’ve seen it all and you are wise beyond your years where nothing shocks you anymore. Thus, a lot of night hags choose to take on a form of wisdom and power and enjoy a form that’s less appealing to the vain eyes and more aligned with those who see beyond it. The feminine equivalent of them is the crones of the night. The crone is the essence of power and divine empowerment of the feminine, the form that has seen it all. There is no good or bad they just understand what life is since they have seen the worst of nature and humanity, they have a deep sense of understanding and power that rises from them through wisdom. Crones have seen it all.
The night hag takes it one step further past the crone because the night hag is now deceased, so all that power and wisdom is now moved into the realm of the dead. In life they knew up to death but now they know death and beyond. They are empowered and don’t care what anyone thinks about them. Some night hags like to teach lessons some will go and suffocate people in their sleep, they’re not all nice and wise as some can be violent. There is a lot of wisdom and knowledge though that they can share. They often can offer incredible advice and know a lot about ancient practices/knowledge. Night hags can grow and evolve, their wisdom and understanding of the world, ability to give insight can grow. Growth means to continue to learn and just because we aren’t growing in our physical bodies and evolving, doesn’t mean that we become stagnant as a spirit. We instead grow in different ways.
Some of the night hags died in horrific ways as mentioned like being burned or tortured to death. The middles ages were a time where many women, men and children where burned alive, tortured, drowned, run over, ripped apart by horses, and in many other horrible ways. There is a similarity with wraiths however as wraiths can be anyone a night hag often rises into being from someone who had magical powers and had the connection already, so they didn’t have to warp the darkness to attain power but rather the power burst open from within them. Sometimes it’s simply their death that gives rise to a night hag like if a witch dies and he was very powerful he might just rise as a night hag. It’s the power within them that is awakening and rising, they are very skilled in magic and some are directly aligned with Lady Hekate. The ones who died horrifically are often very skilled in execration and baneful curses. Many do know how to work with poisons and the properties of death.
Night hags have control over the natural world and the elements. They can know how to extract poisons and the properties of plants that can kill and harm people. A lot of them have ancient knowledge with plants or when it comes to different healing and herbal work. They can teach you about blending and working with different herbs it can be a very healing experience working with them. Many night hags have their own healing magick and energies to them, they can also help with clearing the aura of rocks, refresh energies and help rejuvenate the soul. They can also provide you some home remedies, lift your spirits and help you shift from a place of sorrow and misery to a place of happiness and peace.
Night hags also walk with the dead so they can be a healing presence for the dead. They learn and listen to the dead, they can guide them to aid with crossing over to show them the way to a resting place. The dead move from one place to another, so there’s no real final resting place but rather they move to where they are going next. Night hags can teach their companion the art of necromancy and how to awaken their shadows, they understand darkness and that essence of the soul. They can help people become comfortable with their own darkness.
Night hags are great mentors with the old ways of witchcraft; they know the seasons, they can read the signs of the weather, when storms are coming, can tell you divine messages from the shadows, among many other things. Some are more patient than others, but they can offer advice on when to perform certain workings, rituals, and spells. They say many times magick fails because the elements and seasons are wrong, so by shifting your spells to align with the elements/season you can empower your spells and thus help you manifest your desires. Night hags can also assist companions with lucid dreaming and dream interpretation. They can help you receive the wisdom from the dream and really explore the depth of the dreams.
Forlorn Mummy
Egypt was a very powerful and magical place. It’s said that ancient Egyptians had all 365 psychic senses open and that their temples and places of worship were actually places where they would directly connect and work with the gods. The ancient mummy brings the essence of that magic into the physical world now, so you have ties to this ancient magick and command over yourself and your psychic senses. The forlorn mummy therefore deals with a lot of ancient magick especially Egyptian magick. They have direct ties to ancient Egypt and often channel the ancient Egyptian currents and magick.
Forlorn mummies can help you awaken your senses and can help you stimulate dormant psychic senses within you that the ancient humans once possessed. Currently there are about five senses that everyone accepts, but even 20 years ago there was the discussion of the sixth sense. Although there are a lot more as we have clairaudience, clairvoyance, clairsentience, intuition, claircognizance, precognition etc. there are all sorts of other senses, as there are at least 365 of them. The forlorn mummy can bring those senses and knowledge of those senses back to help you awaken and channel them for yourself. They also have ties to ancient Egyptian curses, which are powerful because they had to know how to defend themselves during that time and they knew how to channel these ancient currents of energy which is a combined essence of celestial and earthen curse magick which is why it’s so potent.
Forlorn mummy can activate different energy currents and help activate earthen and celestial magick within us. They can also activate desert magick within us as the desert is a mystical place. There is a lot of rich and powerful energy currents that move in the desert as it’s a place of death. If you get lost in the desert and don’t have a knowledge or respect for the elements it can kill you without mercy. However, deserts can also be healing and provide visions of wisdom. Thus, there is a healing property to Egyptian magick as it is very holistic and powerful so mummies can channel those elements. Forlorn mummies thus can help you challenge these energies and awaken those powers within you. They’re also very good at helping us with astral travel, with attaining psychic visions as well as accessing and traveling to different places in time. In fact, they are actually very good at helping us astral travel through time. Ancient Egyptians were known for their ability to astral travel and channel the power of the astral body. Mummies are ancient themselves so they can offer advice and share stories.
Dancing Skeletons
Dancing skeletons are a representation of what it means to shed your inhibitions and you’re shame – you’re dead, who cares? Shed all worry and concern and just dance, let yourself surrender and let go. Akelta has always thought that a lot of our misery stems from the fact we have been told often since childhood of all the things we can and cannot do or the what we should and shouldn’t be. Thus, we are living in constant stress with abusive at times expectations of ourselves.
The first time Akelta met the dancing skeletons she was astral traveling and she came across a hill that had a roaring bonfire with a bunch of skeletons dancing around it. Akelta asked them what they were doing and they responded with dancing, come join us! They all grabbed her, linking their arms and they were all spinning around the bonfire. Akelta describes it as a very freeing experience and funny because at the end they teased her saying look at you still confined to your meat suit as they poked at her skin. They were laughing about her being confined and that she needed to learn how to shed her skin and embrace freedom. Thus the dancing skeletons are really good at helping you shift into a different mindset and let go of troublesome worries and to just have fun, as well as to find fun in your life and help you enjoy dancing again.
It’s often said that if life is getting you down the best thing you can do is laugh and move, let yourself go and don’t judge yourself. There is a strong lack of judgement from the dancing skeletons as they just exist and want you to experience that freedom and surrender to let go. They are also very good at helping with manifestation because they say we often block our manifestations with our thoughts and mind being bound and restricted. So working with dancing skeletons they can help us let things go and let it flow. They can help us have our manifestations open up so we can start creating and crafting them.
Dancing skeletons are very good with creative aspects too not just with dancing as they can help with art. They can inspire unique creativity like with things that have surprises to them since they are very unpredictable and can help free you from confining/predictable thoughts. Dancing skeletons often offer surprises, things you least expect as they enjoy shaking things up. They don’t really like structure as they enjoy allowing the freedom of expression to move. Unless the dancing skeletons tell Akelta their gender they are referred to as ‘they’ since they are an expression of fluid freedom and to them it doesn’t matter anymore, they are a skeleton.
They are very good at uplifting us and to help us open creative cycles within our minds, as well as helping you get into a space to create. If you are feeling stressed and feeling you don’t have time to create things sometimes by stepping away and feeling like you have all the time in the world allows you to come back to the project and accomplish what you need to in a timely manner. Working with dancing skeletons there are a lot of things you wouldn’t expect like stepping away and having fun to come back to having everything finished even more easily. Akelta finds them incredibly enjoyable as they love celebrations, parties, times where you can let the night go and not worry about anything.
Earth in OSW?
Earth is here. There are planets in the outer spiritual world (OSW) but it’s different from our physical earth. Our physical earth and other physical earths exist in the ISW, but the OSW does have planets just not earth. There are different laws and different everything in the OSW as they don’t have the same universal laws and gravity as we do on our planet.

To get an idea of their location there are the upper realms that have a light side and a dark side, there is corrosive and dark divinity. Then there is up and down so there is up light and as you go down you get into the outer infernal regions where the spectral realm, mutilation realm, and crypt realm are so you have those essences of darkness as you go down. Additionally, there is the underworld which is another dimension within this. The underworld is like a subdimension because you can go under it into the abyssal and hellborn realms, but within the other world there is another essence of darkness which is if you push into that is where you meet the hallow demons. They have an essence of very dark and necromantic death that washes over them.
