October 30th –
The Darkness of Halloween

Introduction

At the beginning of summer, the summer solstice is the longest day of the year so everything after that is a descent into darkness. The darkness from that point grows and as a result our connection to those vibrations and energies grows. We are beings of darkness and light, so we are drawn to both. Thus within our seasons we see that from the winter to the summer solstice we move from darkness to light and from the summer to winter solstice we move from light to darkness. Just as the summer solstice is the longest day of the year the winter solstice is the darkest day of the year. As darkness grows more people become intrigued by the mystery of it and the dark realms open. When it comes to this time of the year we can tap into the different currents of darkness. Around Halloween is a time of ghosts, scary monsters, demons, goblins but you also see elements of that around Christmas and Yule. Christmas upon closer inspection is also filled with ghost stories as the energies of darkness is still open and pushing into the depth of darkness of the year. Halloween is similar and different from Christmas since it has an interesting element as it is also the time linked to harvest.

Layers of Connecting to the Energies of Darkness

There are different layers to consider with connecting to the energies of darkness; the first one would be the seasonal layer as seasonally we move from light to dark as our days are getting shorter and we have longer nights, thus there is more time to connect to the darkness. There’s also a cultural component to it since more people connect and add to these energies, which then builds the manifestation energy. If you observe people that are mega-manifesters when they talk they like to do things in groups because they are building the group energy and as you are raising the energy you activate a cumulative amount of force that will help you attain what you desire. This can also happen with rituals of darkness where you can help build the energy through groups with mindset currents and energy waves which then open up the realms of darkness.

Celebrating holidays like the day of the dead because it is rooted culturally and is known adds additional energy. Thus the second layer is the cultural energy connected to the layers of darkness that we can tap into. Even in Ancient Egypt they had days to celebrate the dead and their ancestors around the beginning of September, so somewhat of the same time period as we have set for Halloween. The third layer is the spiritual component and a good way to connect with this is to ask why are we drawn to these holidays and where did they actually come from. It’s interesting because if the answer is “well people made them up” we need to consider… how did they then make it up and why did it evolve the way it did- where did these beliefs come from. What we are tapping into gives rise to these inspirations to celebrate these holidays. It’s interesting to note that around the world there are similar holidays that occur, and this is partially to do with seasons and how things function celestially. It also has to do with energetic energies and with what we are tapping into and connected to from the spiritual world.

Akelta finds it interesting how farmers know and are aware of things. They understand the seasons and know when to plant the crops. There was a time where farmers would say things and scientists would say there is simply no way to prove it and deny it, but then it would eventually be right. This is due to the fact that farmers are tapped into the energies. This is similar to people that are tapped into spiritual energies as they get a sense of what’s going on, the vibrations, as well as get a sense of the realms we are closest to. We can start to see patterns in our ability to connect to the spiritual world and see how we draw and work with those energies.

Residing in the Southern Hemisphere and Connecting to Darkness

For those in the southern hemisphere it would be the opposite for them. However, there are still ways to tap into this darkness even if you are in Australia where it’s turning to summer at this time. Thus, even if you are in the southern hemisphere due to the cultural and spiritual component there are still ways you can connect and benefit from these energies. If you flip the energies, you can benefit from it all year round while the world is culturally celebrating spring seasons you have the seasonally dark seasons so you can connect to it.

You can still tap into death energies as it’s a blending of energies. There are more layers than the three (seasonal, cultural, spiritual) but for now we’ll focus on these. It’s good to look at these different angles when composing rituals as we can draw energy from it. We can draw energy for example from the cultural pull to Halloween, draw energy from the season moving from light to dark, or drawing energy from the spiritual elements of it as in what festivities might be going on in other realms or bringing from our home realms, etc.

Darkness and Inspiration for Halloween

For the Halloween season we are harnessing the energy of darkness, so we have the start of this after the summer solstice. The summer solstice is the longest and brightest day of the year and from there the days start becoming shorter. This period is also a time where we shift from the planting to the harvesting season. At that point around Halloween you begin reaping the bounty of what you harvested. Akelta has a lot of relatives who are farmers so when you are in the farming community this season is very important for the crops, they however work hard all year round yet the leading into winter inspires deep reflection.

It’s also a very good time for manifestation spells to bring forth the fruits of your harvest. It also marks moving to a time where everything stops growing and everything dies for the winter. We see that on October 30th-31st it’s generally the time of the last harvest and from there everything begins to die. There is a huge component of death with this as the harvest is then over. It signaled that by then we have all the food for the winter and in some cases people that did not get enough food would die.

In the past especially, there was a huge level of necessary cooperation that was needed during the harvest season to make sure everyone survived the winter. In modern times we’re more disconnected with this as we have technology and food exports so we can purchase food year-round in supermarkets. We have the luxury of fast food and restaurants if we are hungry, so we don’t have the same intense experience with the danger of starvation during the winter season as our ancestors in the past did. In ancient times if you had a bad harvest, poor crops or not enough food you would likely die adding a threat to be people’s survival during this time. We can see that it was a time when many people could experience death themselves not just of the plants and crops. Thus, there was a connection and duality between us and the spiritual world because of it.

In addition to the death of crops and at times people this season was also a time of culling animals so there was another component of death where animals had to be killed. There is an element of death and of blood with the culling which creates spirit bridges. As a lot of animals are killed it creates many spirit bridges, so you are opening the energies up even further. There are many energies in this season that open up to the darkness and are what we can tap into. Once the season is over it’s a time of death there is still some work to do but there is also a lot of time to sit and reflect- to be in the darkness and ponder on what is out there.

People were more aware of the spiritual world because of their own mortality as they could easily die and as it was a dark season, it would make people think more about what was out there as mentioned: the monsters, goblins and all the creatures that could snatch you away. If we examine folklore, there are many tales of monsters and faery folk that would come in the night and steal children or if you were a wandering traveler you might get swept off course by lamenting spirits.

We see remnants of old traditions, practices, and beliefs even now that are carried over. For example carved pumpkins were once used to ward, guard, and protect your house from evil spirits and creatures that may try to invade your space and hurt you. Even the act of dressing up for Halloween that we still do now to be one with the darkness has an element of camouflage, which in the past was done to not be taken on this night. There is a lot written that says Halloween was developed in the Victorian era but where did that come from? We have to ask where do these things actually come from as there will always be some sort of evolution.

The Victorian era experienced lots of fatalities as many children were dying, so there was a massive focus and fascination with death at this time. If we examine many stories told in the past children were the most susceptible to being kidnapped by fairies or evil spirits, there are many legends surrounding this. There was a huge exploration of the darkness at this time because the children were dying, the people of this period went through plagues, war, starvation, and many other situations where people were dying around them. This naturally pulled people to death as every time there is something that makes it so you have to embrace death we become more drawn to the death realms to understand why. Death will also at times inspire us to reconnect to ancestors and relatives we have lost or drawn to learn what might have caused it. Thus, people search for answers through internal journeys and meditations which allows them to connect to different aspects of the spiritual world and through that helps them find clarity through these connections.

There is a saying that “if we study darkness, darkness studies you”. So when we are naturally drawn to it there is a dance that occurs between it and yourself as it begins to mesh and mold you. It changes you as you also change it- it’s a powerful effect. When there are these energies of darkness and periods like that of Halloween, we can develop different vibrations that we can tap into and work with to understand and study them. It’s why this season has so many elements of darkness and also why a lot of people have more spiritual experiences during this time of the year more than any other. Since there is a natural pull into the dark and the spiritual realm many people will say that the veil is thin and that there is a bridge between the worlds, which all has an element of truth to it as many people are actually looking, curious and trying to find ways to cross the spirit barrier. This is done by raising our energies and pulling ourselves into it because of the darkness all around us. Even the culling of animals as mentioned before creates spirit bridges, which brings the spiritual world closer to our world in a sense.

Being Aligned with Death Energies

When our relatives pass away or when there are people dying around you it brings you into alignment with your own mortality and it also brings you closer to the spiritual world. If you spoke with a hospice nurse even in current times, you will find that those who spend a lot of time with people that are dying are very in tune with the dead.

Akelta’s mother worked in palliative care before she worked in psychiatry and every time someone in Akelta’s family got sick Akelta would call her mother to ask if she needs to book a flight. Akelta’s mother would say yes or no and she was never wrong because she became very in tune with death energies. In a particular situation Akelta’s aunt who was 52 years old was not feeling well and Akelta’s mother said we have to go visit her so they went together. They were going to see her the next day but Akelta’s mother said she had a bad feeling and that they should see her today. Akelta’s grandmother was adamant she was fine it was only the flu and that there wasn’t anything to worry about however they found out the next day that Akelta’s aunt actually ended up passing away that night. Akelta’s mother from seeing and experiencing so many people die made her develop a sense for it, so as you work with death and with darkness you begin to experience that world- to start to understand the signs when people are about to pass. You become connected to the spiritual world in a way that allows you to see from there.

Many have said that those who are about to die start talking to their dead relatives and those that have passed. Akelta remembers right before her grandfather passed away, he started talking and having arguments with his dead brother. He actually was yelling at his dead brother in Italian in the corner and it went on for two hours before he went to sleep and then passed away. Therefore, at this time of the year when your crops have died, you have to cull your animals, and people around you can potentially be dying you are bringing yourself and everyone closer to the essence of the spiritual world as it becomes aligned to you. This will make you more aware of it and is why many people have experiences. The other aspect to remember is that the days are getting darker and there is more time where we are immersed in darkness, which makes us more connected to the dream world, the spiritual world, and the dark realms because of the darkness and it vibrates at those frequencies.

Halloween Energies and Empowering Rituals

Halloween has become a very special night and it continues to become more special. There are huge rituals and celebrations around Halloween that many people participate in. There is magic everywhere and in everything in the world. There are many people however that want to distance or remove the magic from the world when it is truly incorporated into everything in our lives. All of our holiday rituals however are a form of magic as we are flooding energies and currents around us from these various holidays. For example watching horror movies, decorating the house for Halloween, kids going trick or treating are some examples where we immerse ourselves additionally the coven has their own rituals that they do to work and draw in the energies as well as connect to demons at this time. In fact it’s a great time to work with demons as the energies of darkness are being celebrated throughout the population, but also because we are transitioning from the time of harvest to a time of death. Every time we transfer and transition in energies there is a huge shift within these energies so if you can tap into it and draw it in then it can build your own darkness.

Everyone’s obsession with monsters and horror during this season creates a push into dark energies. When there is culture and history for instance in Sleepy Hollow, NY it has the legend of the headless horseman, so there is a strong ghost element tied into this location which raises the darkness there. Therefore by going to a place that is haunted or has history you can tap into the dark currents of those places and draw from them for your own ritual practices. It’s important to research the place you are doing rituals in especially for those who are looking to empower their rituals. Figure out if there are any stories in the areas that you are working in see if there are any energies that you can tap into?

The world is filled with places where things have occurred, and many ghost tales have connections to the demonic and death realms. As an idea you can see if there are local accounts or places like ghost ships and graveyards of trains, which generally contain powerful energies. If you’ve ever wandered around these places you can feel that they carry such incredible energy which you can draw energy and strength from. The best way to empower rituals is by assessing what sort of ritual you want to conduct and figuring out what type of dark energies you want to blend into your ritual. Once decided you want to figure out what time, day, moon phase or what season will be best to enhance this ritual. All of these things can influence the ritual in a positive way if aligned correctly.

During this time of the year because it is a time of transition with the harvest and death energies we are naturally more in tune with our ancestors and reminded of those that have passed. More people during this time become curious about their ancestors and can reconnect with them with greater ease if they choose as well as pull these energies into their spiritual work. You can google for instance things that your ancestors experienced and went through, which can let you draw darkness from your genetics. You can additionally draw darkness from things that happened to you because of how the energies transition.

The Ties and Energies of Christmas and Halloween

The energies of Halloween are aligned with the death realm as it reminds us of the dead and it is a time of darkness and the monstrous. The monstrous during this time are naturally aligned and connected to us. On Halloween we often embark on being monsters for the day. It’s not only kids that dress up even adults do. There is a cultural component where we explore and embrace our own monstrous essence by dressing up and shedding the bonds of society and all that we “should be”. When you are exploring the monstrous aspects you can path into different elements of darkness that you can work into your rituals. During the dark period of the year we have more time to explore this and it continues until the Christmas season and the winter solstice.

If we look into the Christmas season, as mentioned we will actually find a lot of ghost stories that tie into this time as well. In the past families would gather on Christmas and tell ghost stories since it’s also a very dark time of the year. It’s rich with unique spirits like Krampus, Santa Claus, and many other spiritual components which tie into it as well as a holy aspect. Akelta finds the holy element interesting because it is found in Halloween too as the word ‘hallow’ means holy. Halloween is thus translated into holy night however it’s more of a dark holy night and Christmas with the winter solstice being another holy night. The difference however is that Halloween is a descent into the underworld and Christmas ties in with the longest night of the year where from there the light starts to return. Halloween is almost an initiation into this very dark period of time and Christmas marks its end. There is a great energy during this time and is one of Akelta’s favorite times of the year as you can do many things to connect with it. November itself is a remarkable month of darkness which is perfect for ritual work and is one that Akelta adores as it’s still very tied with the dead, the demonic, our ancestors, and the monstrous. December is when Akelta does her big demonic rituals as she taps into and works with different demons and explores their energies during that month.

Our Own Journey

When you connect with demons it’s not out of rebellion but rather it’s because you are comfortable with them and feel at home in these energies. We all have different paths and places to explore as not everyone will be comfortable working with demons. It’s interesting how so many paths are now accepted like paganism, voodoo and so on yet anyone who says they work with Satan is often labeled as a bad guy, evil or just avoided. Sometimes it takes a long time for people to realize they are called to these paths as so many of us don’t know of that connection till later. Especially since there is still a limited discussion and conversation on working with demons and being a Satanist making it often very misunderstood.

It’s about figuring out where you call home as there are so many dark paths and layers. A simplified version of this is that there are ascending paths of darkness where you work yourself up into higher vibrational realms of darkness and then there are various journeys where you can descend deeper into lower vibrational realms of darkness. There are paths where people can go into pain, sorrow, misery, and end up stripping away of themselves as there are other paths where you engage in nihilism meaning you reduce yourself to nothing and open a void essence within you. There are many potential avenues for us to explore what we are called to. Exploring this opens these journeys up to us and allows us to attain the deeper darkest points if we decide to venture in. Since the spiritual world is infinite we can also open paths within it, there is a huge component of exploration making Halloween a perfect time to do so.

Cursing?

Akelta doesn’t enjoy cursing other people as she finds it a waste of time, instead she made it so that if anyone tries to curse her or sends ill intentions her way these energies are instead converted to money. She enjoys when people throw negative energy at her as in speaking about her, gossip, and so on or if they throw curses at her it will be converted, and she’ll often wake up to lots of sales.

You have to know the intricacies of curse magick to do it well without it backfiring as you are essentially programming energies to cause somebody harm. You have to pay close attention to the energy that you are using, to how you’re feeling in general, how you’re feeling about this person, as well as to know the person and what their defenses are and so on for it to really be successful. Akelta knows people who can even kill others with curses but this requires a lot of focus and caution. Akelta’s mentor worked with the aboriginals in Australia and learned their secrets for curses as the ancient cultures have such incredible wisdom. However as mentioned for Akelta rather than curse she learned to reverse engineer these methods to craft energies that are designed to harvest negative energies sent to her and harvest it into money. She uses a lot of energy programming in her work and within her ritual work Akelta has many objects placed in specific places to absorb and capture energy, she programs a lot of crystals in order to create these effects. This is also how the S&S magickals are created as they program energies into them.

Energy field and Bullies

There are also many ways to shift your energies like through magnetism, body language, commanding your energy and nervous system by thinking empowered thoughts and sending it through your system. By doing this you create a field around you designed to shift and influence the energies of your space. Once you are tapped into the energies of magnetism for instance, you’re able to play off people’s insecurities and the people that are bullies are often very insecure themselves which is why they bully others in the first place. So when you come from a place of confidence and security without reacting to them they will start to become more insecure and panicked around you, so as you stand your ground and stay positive or charged in your energy you can offset them. You can also craft within your energy field so that it will unnerve them. If someone says a lot of bad things about you one thing you can also do is gather that energy and bend it in a way that makes you look good so there are many neat techniques with these energies that can be utilized.

Final Thoughts

To conclude October 31st is a time of transition and till the winter solstice it is a time of death and is a perfect opportunity to tap into all forms of dark energy. As we are moving to the darkest time of the year and through this time we are shifting and moving deeper into the darkness. Also culturally it’s a great support to have these energies as our own darkness is more open and we are more in tune with our subconscious mind because the nights are longer. We have more connections to the dream state as the nights are longer, and we sleep more. Thus, we can tap into external and internal darkness and connect to the strength within us for our rituals as well as draw strength from numerous sources. It’s a great time to explore ourselves and be open to what journeys emerge for us.

How come it can’t fly no better than a chicken?’ Milkman asked.

Too much tail. All that jewelry weighs it down. Like vanity. Can’t nobody fly with all that [stuff]. Wanna fly, you got to give up the [stuff] that weighs you down.’
