Another article I found in my pocket (firefox browser).

This time, a few quotes from the article before giving you the link. But you could just scroll by them to get to the link if you really want.
“For such an iconic thing that strikes both fear and wonder in American culture, how can no one know where it came from?”
“Communicating with the dead was common, it wasn’t seen as bizarre or weird,” explains Murch. “It’s hard to imagine that now, we look at that and think, ‘Why are you opening the gates of hell?’”
For emphasis (because it strikes me as hilarious):
‘Why are you opening the gates of hell?’

“People want to believe. The need to believe that something else is out there is powerful,” he says. “This thing is one of those things that allows them to express that belief.”
In 1967, the year after Parker Brothers bought the game from the Fuld Company, 2 million boards were sold, outselling Monopoly
Okay, here's the link already:

I always found it funny that before The Exorcist came out in '73 Ouija/Spirit boards were sold in toy stores as a kids game, no more scary than Magic 8 Ball

I’ve read that it’s still risky to do ouija board stuff.
I’ve read somewhere in the FAQ of Satan and Sons that you can use one. I don’t know why they are recommending that though lol.

If you cannot identify the energies who are coming through it’s easy to get a trickster or something. Correct me if i’m wrong.
